About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually covers

Mississippi licenses independent installer/transporters of factory-built homes through the State Fire Marshal’s Office under the Factory-Built Homes Act (Miss. Code § 75-49-1 et seq.). The Fire Marshal’s rules and regulations require these licensees to carry a $25,000 surety bond along with general commercial liability coverage.

The bond stands behind your compliance with the Act and protects the public harmed by faulty installation or transport — for example, a home set or moved in violation of the installation standards. Under § 75-49-9, a licensed installer or transporter may not deliver a factory-built home for human habitation without a bond on file.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. We issue the $25,000 amount (or a higher figure if the Fire Marshal’s Office requires one) at pricing from $100, with a quick soft credit check that never affects your score.

Miss. Code § 75-49-1 et seq.; State Fire Marshal regulationsUnder Mississippi’s Factory-Built Homes Act (Miss. Code § 75-49-1 et seq.) and the State Fire Marshal’s rules and regulations (19 Miss. Admin. Code, Title 19), an independent installer/transporter of factory-built homes must provide proof of a $25,000 surety bond plus a general commercial liability policy of at least $100,000. Confirm the current amount on your license application.
