The Capital Region Transportation Council (Transportation Council) is the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) carrying out federal requirements for cooperative transportation planning and programming in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties (except the Town of Moreau and the Village of South Glens Falls) in New York State. The Transportation Council is issuing a request for expressions of interest (REI) from qualified firms or individuals to undertake the Aiken Avenue Area Linkage Study in the City of Rensselaer.
The Aiken Avenue Area Linkage Study seeks to improve connectivity, including pedestrian connectivity, between the area of Aiken Avenue, Ring Street, and 2nd Avenue and the area of Columbia Street and Broadway. These two areas are separated by railroad tracks and topographical issues. The study is being funded by the Transportation Council and the City of Rensselaer through the Transportation Council’s 2026-2027 Unified Planning Work Program as part of the Community and Transportation Linkage Planning Program. The study has a fixed budget of $60,000 for consultant services. The Transportation Council, on behalf of the City of Rensselaer will administer the consultant contract and will jointly manage the study with the City. The Transportation Council and the City of Rensselaer would like to see this study completed within 12 calendar months from the date of contract execution.
