Wyoming temporary RV permit bonds.
$500 flat.

Wyoming lets an out-of-state RV dealer run a temporary display and sales event under a permit from the Department of Transportation, and W.S. 31-16-127 conditions it on a $50,000 bond. Ours is $500 flat, set by our carrier’s rate book for this bond. One soft credit pull; the bond is issued when you pay.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Wyoming lets an out-of-state RV dealer not licensed in Wyoming hold a temporary recreational vehicle display and sales event under a permit. Under W.S. 31-16-127, the application must be accompanied by a $50,000 cash or surety bond from a surety licensed in Wyoming, filed at least 90 days before the event.

The bond is conditioned that the dealer commit no fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation and violate no federal or state law relating to the business, and that the dealer return the permit, demo plates, and any unused temporary permits and stubs. It is forfeited to the department on a violation of the act.

If a buyer or the state is harmed by the dealer's conduct at the event, recovery comes against the bond — and if the surety pays, the dealer repays the surety. The department returns the bond within 30 days if no sales occurred, or one year after the last sale if all conditions are satisfied.

W.S. 31-16-127 (temporary RV display and sales permit)Wyoming Statute 31-16-127 lets an out-of-state RV dealer not licensed in Wyoming obtain a temporary recreational vehicle display and sales permit. The application must include a $50,000 cash or surety bond (corporate surety licensed in Wyoming), approved as to form by the Attorney General, conditioned against fraud and violations of law and guaranteeing the return of the permit, demo plates, and unused temporary permits. The application and $500 fee are due at least 90 days before the event.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do I pay the $50,000?No. You pay $500 flat. The $50,000 is the surety's maximum liability to the state and harmed buyers; it's not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Who requires this bond? The Wyoming Department of Transportation requires it under W.S. 31-16-127 as a condition of a temporary recreational vehicle display and sales permit for out-of-state dealers. No bond, no permit.
When do I need to apply? The statute requires the permit application — with the $50,000 bond and a $500 fee — at least 90 days before the event. Apply with us early so the bond is in hand well before that deadline.
Is there a credit check?Yes — one soft credit pull, which never affects your score. It informs approval, not price. The price is $500 flat either way: credit can affect whether we approve the bond, never what it costs.
When is the bond released? The department returns it within 30 days after the event if no Wyoming sales occurred, or one year after the last sale if all the bond’s conditions and guarantees are satisfied.
Which A-rated carriers underwrite these bonds?Typically Arch Insurance Company (A.M. Best A+) or Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (A.M. Best A). Which one writes your bond depends on the bond type and your state. The carrier's name and official signature are printed on the bond you receive.
How do I contact Light RFP about this bond?Email insurance@lightrfp.com. It reaches the bond team at Light RFP Risk Management Services LLC (NY DFS License # PC-1978982). Write to us about quotes, applications, bond forms or certificates. We will respond within 24 hours.
