South Carolina regulates boxing and other combat-sports events through the State Athletic Commission, under S.C. Code Title 40, Chapter 81 and Chapter 20 of the Code of Regulations. A promoter who stages a licensed boxing, kickboxing, MMA, or wrestling event must hold a $10,000 promoter bond.

The bond guarantees your adherence to the Commission’s rules — paying fighters and officials, remitting fees and taxes due, and honoring your obligations for the event. If you default on those, the harmed party can recover against the bond.

Note that some promoters who don’t carry the required accident and medical insurance for participants face an additional $10,000 bond — confirm on your Commission application whether one bond or two applies to your events. It is not insurance for you: if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety.
