Under 32 M.R.S. §8111, the bond is conditioned on the honest conduct of your investigative business — and it gives any person injured by an intentional, knowing, reckless, or negligent act of the licensee the right to bring an action on the bond in their own name.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the people your work touches as the protected parties. The bond is filed with the Chief of the State Police, who administers professional investigator licensing in Maine.
