When the Indiana DNR issues a group dock (group pier) permit on a public freshwater lake, it can condition the permit on a $5,000 bond guaranteeing the work meets the permit terms. Ours is $100 flat — set by our carrier for this bond.

Permit bonds are simple. Here's the entire process:
Business details, your permit number and date, your county, a short description of the work, and an effective date — that is the application.
Small fixed-amount permit bonds like this issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond arrives by email, ready to file with your DNR group pier permit. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
Indiana's Lakes Preservation Act (IC 14-26-2) makes the natural resources and scenic beauty of public freshwater lakes a public right, and requires DNR authorization for work at or lakeward of the shoreline. The DNR's rules in 312 IAC 11 govern piers, including group piers that serve multiple property owners or a development.
When the DNR issues a group dock / group pier permit, it can require a $5,000 surety bond as a condition. The bond guarantees the permittee will build, maintain, and operate the group pier in line with the permit and the Lake Preservation Act rules — protecting the lake and the public's interest in it.
It is a guarantee to the state, not insurance for you. If you fail to perform under the permit and the surety pays, you repay the surety. Whether a bond is required, and the exact amount, depends on your permit — confirm both with the DNR Division of Water before you buy.
These are the actual issuing fields — including your permit number, date, and a description of the work. The application collects no credit information.
