About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the supplier bond actually covers

The Motor Fuel Tax Law (35 ILCS 505) licenses the parties in Illinois’s fuel-tax chain through the Department of Revenue. A supplier is a licensed role responsible for the tax on motor fuel it supplies, and that license is conditioned on a surety bond filed with the Department.

As with the distributor and receiver bonds, the Department fixes the amount based on the fuel the applicant expects to supply and the tax collectible on it. The bond stands behind the tax owed on that fuel.

If you fail to remit, the state can recover against the bond, and if the surety pays a claim you repay the surety. We issue the amount the Department set, with premiums starting from $100 and no credit information collected in the application — confirm the figure and the form on your Department of Revenue notice.
