About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the AGS bond secures

Illinois opened retail natural gas to competition, and a company that sells gas to retail customers must be certified as an Alternative Gas Supplier by the Illinois Commerce Commission. Certification requires the applicant to post a license bond as a financial assurance before it can serve Illinois customers.

Under 83 Ill. Admin. Code Part 551, the bond is set at $150,000 in favor of the People of the State of Illinois, conditioned on the full and faithful performance of the supplier's duties and obligations as an AGS, and valid for at least one year. If the bond is cancelled, expires, or is drawn upon, the supplier must keep replacement security in place so the cumulative coverage never falls below the required amount.

The bond is part of the certification filing with the Commission. We issue the standard $150,000 bond starting from $100; the application collects no credit information, and the bond runs in favor of the State and stands behind your obligations to Illinois gas customers.
