The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is the local public health department for the City of Boston. BPHC’s mission is to work in partnership with communities to protect and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, especially those impacted by racism and systemic inequities. The purpose of the Community Overdose Response Grants is to fund community-based organizations to deliver services that will prevent overdoses within neighborhoods at higher risk of overdose, including Black and Latinx communities.

The scope of work requires all applicants to include linkage to treatment (assisting individuals in navigating treatment options, making referrals, and conducting warm handoffs), overdose education (implementing evidence-based training programs to recognize and respond to overdoses), and naloxone distribution (establishing a supply chain and implementing targeted distribution strategies). Other potential activities include outreach and engagement, youth prevention, harm reduction, employment and housing support, and expanding equitable care. Funded projects must track the number of people linked to services, trained on naloxone administration, and naloxone kits distributed, and report monthly metrics, success stories, lessons learned, and expenditure reports.
