A four-year-term notary must file a $500 official bond, executed by a surety company and approved by the Department of Financial Institutions, kept in force for the full commission. The bond is the $500 figure; the $10,000 E&O is a separate coverage layer bundled into this package. A blanket employer bond does not satisfy the requirement, and permanent commissions are not bonded.
