Under 38 CFR Part 13, a VA-appointed fiduciary must, within 60 days of appointment, furnish a corporate surety bond to the fiduciary hub with jurisdiction when the beneficiary’s VA benefit funds will exceed $25,000 at appointment. The bond identifies the fiduciary, beneficiary, and surety, is payable to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and must be adjusted for any increase or decrease of more than 20% in the funds under management. Court-appointed fiduciaries already bonded, and certain State agencies with existing coverage, may be exempt — confirm with your fiduciary hub.
