This announcement shall NOT be construed as a commitment by Brookhaven Science Associates LLC (BSA) to award a Subcontract. BSA reserves the right to use any and all information submitted by, or obtained from, an interested party in any manner BSA determines is appropriate, including, but not limited to, the creation of a solicitation.
I. Background
Brookhaven National Laboratory is a Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratory multidisciplinary research facility, located on Long Island, New York. BSA intends to compete the subject requirement, to be utilized within the United States. This requirement will provide for full and open competition.
The applicable North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 332999, All Other Miscellaneous Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturing (Size Standard, 750 employees), and the applicable PSC is AJ15, General Science & Technology R&D Services; General Science & Technology; R&D Facilities and Major Equipment. Interested parties must be registered under the NAICS code in the System for Award Management (SAM) prior to submitting their quote/proposal.
BSA intends to issue a solicitation in support of this requirement by October 2026. BSA expects to make one (1) award. The anticipated award contract type is a firm-fixed price contract. At this time, BSA anticipates award date to be around February 2027.
II. Description of Need

The selected Contractor will be responsible for the detailed design, engineering, purchase of all materials, manufacturing, and assembly of the Electron Storage Ring (ESR) D2 Dipole Magnets for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). This also includes a first article and delivery at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

The selected Contractor will be responsible for the detailed design, engineering, purchase of all materials, manufacturing, and assembly of the Electron Storage Ring (ESR) D2 Dipole Magnets for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). This also includes a first article and delivery at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The contractor will fabricate one first article magnet and 194 production magnets, including various coil configurations, and must purchase all steel for D2 magnets totaling 730 tons in one single procurement. The contractor must also design and fabricate all tools, jigs, fixtures, and test equipment, and hold design reviews including Preliminary Design Review, Final Design Review, and Manufacturing Readiness Review.
