The project is located within the Bahia Grande Unit of the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in Cameron County, Texas. Base work generally includes mobilization/ demobilization, construction of off-loading pad, restoration of existing boat ramp for marine access, and placement of turbidity curtains, and open water transport and installation of pre-constructed Ultra Reef Balls for breakwater shoreline protection at Rookery Islands A and B. Additive Alternate No. 1 includes placement of turbidity curtains and open water transport and installation of pre-constructed Ultra Reef Balls for breakwater shoreline protection at Rookery Island C. Additive Alternate No. 2 includes construction of an alternate access road. No dredging activities are permitted for this project. Seagrass shall not be damaged or impacted as part of this project.
Owner will construct/manufacture Reef Balls under separate cover and stockpile at staging area. Owner will construct/improve the main access road to reef ball staging area. Contractor will collect pre-constructed Reef Balls from the stockpile location and provide transportation across shallow open water to the islands for installation and install according to construction drawings.
