URI Carothers Library Critical Power Upgrade

The University of Rhode Island seeks a qualified vendor to replace critical power infrastructure at the Carothers Library on its Kingston Campus. Scope includes replacement of the main transformers, switchgear, and emergency/standby power systems, along with installation of a temporary transformer, a robust screen wall around the existing equipment yard, and civil/site work to support underground conduit routing beneath the loading dock drive into the interior electrical room. The base bid must include allowances for unforeseen mechanical conditions ($75,000), unforeseen electrical conditions ($400,000), unforeseen architectural conditions ($150,000), unforeseen civil/structural conditions ($150,000), and unforeseen permit and code compliance conditions ($175,000). Add alternates include a 5-Year Generator Warranty and a Screen Wall Mockup. The initial contract period will begin approximately December 1st, 2026 and extend through the one-year post-construction warranty period, ending in August 2030. Start of construction: May 2027, substantial completion: June 2029, final completion: August 2029.
