SALE ADVERTISEMENT Patterson Loop 26/27 Timber Sale The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is seeking sealed bids for the sale of timber. Patterson Loop 26/27 Timber Sale in its entirety spans 254 acres. It is estimated to yield 1,427 tons of pine pulpwood/mulch wood and 165 tons of eucalyptus pulpwood/mulch wood.
Broken down by species, this is a per unit sale thinning of approximately 220 acres of planted south Florida slash pine, and a clearcutting of approximately 34 acres of planted eucalyptus in Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest in Hendry County, Florida (see attached maps). These maps, and this project in general, divide the harvest into four separate areas referred to as Areas 1, 2, 3, and 4, corresponding to the stands proceeding West to East. The pine sale areas (Areas 1 and 4) are comprised of 19-23-year-old south Florida slash in the range of 200-400 trees per acre calculated through a range of 5-to-7-inch DBH.
Timber available for harvest in Areas 1 and 4 include a 3rd row thinning with selection includes diseased, deformed, defective, forked, and suppressed trees. Both pine sale areas will have a target BA of 30 or higher post-harvest. The two smaller stands totaling 34 acres of planted eucalyptus plantations (Areas 2 and 3) were last clearcut 25 years ago.
Areas 2 and 3 will be a clearcut. All areas will require low ground pressure equipment. Sale boundaries are roads, wetlands, fire lines or obvious timber type changes.
