MassDEP will offer up to $5 Million in Wastewater Recovery Pilot Grants from its Climate Protection and Mitigation Expendable Trust. This Grant Opportunity will provide critical phased funding for the assessment, design, and construction of wastewater energy recovery pilot projects in Massachusetts

The grant opportunity provides phased funding for the assessment, design, and construction of wastewater energy recovery pilot projects in Massachusetts. Eligible projects must use wastewater as a source of recoverable thermal energy for space heating, hot water, or cooling. Technologies include closed loop piping systems, heat exchangers, wet wells, wastewater holding tanks, solids handling equipment, water source heat pumps, and monitoring systems. Phase 1 (Energy Assessment) funds a Technical Assistance Study up to $15,000. Phase 2 (Project Design) funds final design and signed schematic drawings.
