The anaerobic digestion process to treat wastewater sludge produces a side stream with high ammonia and nitrogen concentrations. This side stream flow is from the Dewatering Facility which currently discharges directly to the on-site pond system. To treat this high strength ammonia and to meet environmental regulatory requirements a new on-site Ammonia Removal Facility is required. It is projected that this facility will significantly reduce the high ammonia load by 80 to 90%.
Improve existing drainage and storm water management systems at Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant. These drainage improvements are required to provide positive drainage for the proposed (future) Ammonia Removal Facility (3164.125). CIP 3164.125 and 3164.094 are being permitted and bid together as one project.
Estimated Amount: $31,975,308.00
Special Notes: Rolling Owner Control Insurance Program. (ROCIP) Compliance Plan Required.
The Work includes two Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). For CIP ID No 3164.125, the Work consists of a new process ammonia removal facility located within the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant. This new facility includes a new 60x70-ft concrete equalization basin with 1 vertical shaft mixer, a new transfer lift station with 3 self-priming pumps to pump filtrate from the equalization basin to the reactors, 2 new 60x80-ft concrete reactors with 4 vertical shaft mixers, air diffuser system, foam mitigation system with 10 air lift pumps, carrier media to provide ammonia treatment, a concrete splitter box with 2 V-notch weir gates to split the flow to the reactors, and an effluent channel with weirs, a new effluent lift station with 3 self-priming pumps to pump facility effluent, a new 2,250 SF pre-engineered metal building with concrete slab and HVAC system to house the air blowers and electrical equipment, rehabilitation of an existing lift station with 3 submersible pumps to serve as influent lift station for the new facility, and associated 6-18” DI/SS process and air piping, valves and flow meters, metal walkways and stairs, electrical, and instrumentation and controls. The new facility also includes site improvements including site drainage and grading with concrete channels and flumes, a new 25-ft wide concrete/asphalt/flexbase access road around the facility, yard piping including 600 LF of 6-8” DI force main with a concrete valve vault, 300 LF of 6” PVC drain pipe with manholes, and a 1-2.5” PVC NPW pipe system with yard hydrants, electrical service with transformer, and electrical and control duct banks and junction boxes. For CIP ID No. 3164.094, the Work consists of site drainage improvements located in areas around the new process ammonia facility.
