Tree Seed Collection Specifications
The contractor must collect tree seed from species including balsam fir, white spruce, red pine, yellow birch, tamarack, white pine, black spruce, jack pine, bur oak, red oak, and northern white cedar. Seed must be collected within 100 miles of the Chippewa National Forest. Trees selected for cutting must be smooth-barked and free of defects that could serve as bat roosts; trees not meeting bark smoothness criteria must be cut after September 30. Williams Tree Seeds is specifically allowed to fell trees for balsam fir and yellow birch seed. Seed must be extracted, cleaned, and delivered, except for yellow birch. Labels indicating the county and township of collection must be attached.
